Description
Grant Richards Ltd. London: Grant Richards Limited (1919). First UK edition of this collection of plates by war artist Nevinson. This copy is in very good condition. There is some wear to the top of the spine with a small tear. There is also a small previous owner's name to the front free end paper. Otherwise the boards and pages are clean. A presentable copy. There is an essay by J.E. Crawford Flitch and then several plates of Nevinson's works. Nevinson joined the army in the autumn of 1914 and went to Flanders as a mechanic and ambulance driver. He was invalided out in 1916 but was to become one of the great war artists, producing some of the most harrowing images of the conflict, using his experiences for his paintings. The full colour frontispiece has its original guard (the iconic image is shown as the title page of this catalogue) followed by 24 black and white plates of his works. . Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1919.
